Changes in the New Year

Gypsy Wagon Trading is undergoing changes in the New Year! It's back to "Plan A"   While I have loved creating this fibre arts and vintage home gallery, the reality is that I am not getting the time to create my own wares, consequently not making enough at this location to pay the rent (a very BIG factor in the changes). The adventure started out as a search for a studio, also known as "Plan B", since the space I had available was next door to someone using noxious materials that seeped through the ventilation. I needed an affordable studio to create the painted furniture, upcycled decor, and other creative ventures, and an artist friend suggested The Cannery Trade Centre. I immediately fell in love with the building, with its old exposed beams, drafty old windows, industrial … [Read the rest...]

Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, Gypsy gotta travel…

Just my crazy way of telling y'all that the gallery will be closed for the day Saturday June 22,2013. I'll be attending an annual family gathering.  A good weekend of BBQ, Bocce, and belly laughs! … [Read the rest...]

Challenges and surprises in hooking (heehee)

Every Christmas, the (rug) hookers I hang out with have a themed gift exchange. As we are about to break group for the summer, we have discussion (that would be the polite term!) about what to do this year. This past year we submitted a word that resonated to each of us, then there was a blind draw to  pick a word, and hook your interpretation of it. What was the most difficult was that you didn't know WHO it was for, so you couldn't tailor it to their likes. The results were very inspiring, hilarious, and FUN. The previous year's theme had been portraits, and the general consensus was that choice was definitely NOT fun, although it was at times inspiring and hilarious! The word I pulled from the  hat (to make) this past year was "picture". Well, that was so wide open, it was  daunting, … [Read the rest...]

Stop by my table at this annual fun Mother's Day weekend event and say hello! I'll have all things Spring from the store, with vintage planters and vases, (to show off your new purchases), fibre art flowers for year round blooming beauty, and vibrant coloured bags from Lillith Moon.            My dear friend and fabulous fibre artist Barbara Younger will be looking after the shop this weekend, we'll be open from 10-2pm on Saturday May 11. Sorry for the shorter hours! … [Read the rest...]

Spring is finally arriving, and flip flops are on!

This has grown to be my favourite time of the year in the Okanagan valley; the fruit trees are blossoming, the grapevines are shooting out verdant green buds, and the evenings are lengthening. In another month or so, the lakes will be warm enough to swim after work (despite my years in the north, I am still a big sissy when it comes to jumping in cold water! There are people swimming here in May, the hearty souls!). The outside is calling...so why have I started a bunch of inside projects?!! They were too good to resist, is the short answer. Firstly, I was convinced by Barbara Younger to throw my hat in to a fundraising auction of  re-purposed violins. Fourteen local artists have each received a no longer useable violin and are making it into art. there were literally hundreds of … [Read the rest...]

Welcome to Gypsy Wagon Trading’s blog

Welcome to my shop! I suppose we should start from the beginning of the evolution of GWT. Don't worry, I'll try to be concise so we can move forward to the good stuff. Since you are likely just meeting me, you'll need to know that I have had many professions in my life; business owner, camp cook, recreation director, coffee roaster, artist selling at craft fairs, to the latest incarnation: artist and gallery owner.  Running a shop with only one person can be a real challenge! I often wonder if I didn't get the memo; then someone leaves one! Hope to be able to have an employee soon, but until then I make myself available by phone, email, and facebook when I'm not in my shop. That is why I want to keep everyone posted through this blog. If you don't happen to be around the area, you can … [Read the rest...]
